bCores

Five long years of late evenings in the garage and testing in snow has resulted in the best ski core material ever made. The bCores combine the low density of the best structural foam or the world's lightest wood, with the high shear strength of flax fiber composites. Our engineers kept asking themselves why ski manufacturers use a material as “heavy” as wood at a place – the core of the ski – where the material does not significantly contribute to the structural integrity of the ski.

The answer is a structural foam reinforced by shear webs made from flax fibre composites. The foam acts as a placeholder and can be processed like wood, while the shear webs transfer the load between the faces, guarantee the core's durability and providing this "woody" feeling skiers love.

In our latest development, we married balsa - known for being the world's lightest wood - with our flex fiber shear webs to obtain a lightweight wood core with outstanding processing robustness. bCores give our customers a game-changing product without the need to change anything about their fabrication process.

How does it change your skiing and Alpine touring? Imagine if your powder skis were 30% lighter, but still providing the "feel" of wood, without any compromise on flexural and torsional properties. Until now, your skis either “climbed” or “skied” well, but were never able to do both at a time. Luckily, this has now changed. Under applications you can see what we do with the bCores.
