materials selection, sourcing & processing
The main challenge with composite materials is mastering the interplay between the structural design, the material properties of the resin and the fibres and the production process in order to meet the targeted quality, quantity and price.
Thanks to our deep understanding and knowledge of the European flax industry and of composite materials in general, as well as a close contact to our suppliers, we guarantee our customers the best fibre quality with regards to their specific applications. Through specific spinning and weaving processes, our tailored fabrics are manufactured, focusing on the specifications of the final part.
Similar to the fibres, the matrix is selected to fulfill the specifications of the final part. While we mostly use synthetic thermoset polymers as matrix materials today, a significant part of our R&D efforts is focused on bio-based- and/or thermoplastic polymers to further decrease the environmental impact of our products.
Specific surface treatments – so-called sizings – are applied to improve the strength and durability of the matrix-fibre interface.
