Over the last couple of years, the handling robotics industry has mainly been driven by increasing the speed of operations, hence decreasing inertia of robot arms by using lightweight composite materials. Natural fibre composites with their unique combination of high specific stiffness & strength and outstanding damping properties are believed to contribute to solving the next crucial technical challenge in such applications: increasing the precision of the operations by keeping the high stiffness at low weight, but significantly reducing vibrations at the tip of such arms.
