To strengthen its technical customer support team and further boost its market entry into large-scale mobility, Bcomp is looking for an Automotive Customer Project Engineer in composite materials.
Bcomp’s technologies for the automotive market – mainly the powerRibs™ and ampliTex™ technologies – are in industrialisation phase and ready to be used by our customers to manufacture car bodywork exterior panels, as well as interior parts based on thermoplastic and thermoset matrices. The focus of the project engineer lies in driving development projects with the customers, to reach serial production of parts for the automotive sector. The project engineer will help the customers to choose the right material combination for their specific components, reverse engineer existing standard components, and assist the customers in prototyping and process development to manufacture the parts, before supporting the customers for qualification tests and industrialisation.
The Automotive Customer Project Engineer will also be the technical lead engineer in customer specific product development projects and coordinate the required technical activities with the R&D team within the project. He/she will also closely interact with the research and development team in order to continue technology development/optimisation in line with market needs, and with Sales, Operations and Marketing to provide them with technical support.
Customer project management
Conduct customer projects for natural fibre-reinforced thermosets/thermoplastics in automotive:
Identify and understand customer needs and requirements and translate them into product specifications
Coordinate technical activities with the R&D team within customer development projects
Coordinate timelines along with the Operations and Sales teams
Provide customers with reverse engineering on existing parts: do preliminary calculations and propose solutions with Bcomp’s technology, along with a comparative description of potential weight & performance improvements / penalty, and sustainability assessments
Conduct material tests on specific material combinations for the customer: material scouting, process tests, mechanical tests, environmental tests, coordinating & designing test campaigns
Support customers for tool design and processing methods and parameters
On-site support to customer for trials and troubleshooting during industrialisation
Product development
Work closely with R&D and Operations team to develop or improve customer’s solution
Transfer customer feedback and market needs to product development team to optimise technology development and speed up qualification of product
Sales, Operations & Marketing support
Support Sales, Operations & Marketing teams with technical advice on customer project acquisition, supply chain definition and communication
Feedback and information to Sales, Operations & Marketing on project and technology status
Required
M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science
2 years’ experience in composite processing
2 years’ experience in project management: structured workflow with an ability to handle several projects in parallel
Strong understanding of structural mechanics
Fluent in spoken and written English
Readiness to travel extensively
Able to work autonomously, pro-actively, and share important information with the team
Positive and driven mindset
Preferred
Experience in automotive industry in interior parts design and manufacturing
Experience with natural fibre composites
Experience with technical support / consulting
Experience with FEM simulation
Knowledge of German, French, Mandarin
